The Open Theatre Project
The Young People’s Open Theatre Project is a theatre arts education program for youth which has been operating in Anaconda since 2013. OTP’s mission, to promote the ideas of tolerance, inclusion and understanding among young people through theatre arts, is supported by the various programs offered by the organization. The Open Theatre Project targets direct participation by youth in grades K-12. OTP also brings theatre education into the schools by performing for local and area school audiences.
The Open Theatre Project currently offers three programs annually to the youth of Anaconda and surrounding communities.
Spring School-Touring Production
Often based on a folk tale from different cultures, this Theatre For Young Audiences production is geared for K-6 audiences. Featuring actors of upper elementary and middle school age, the School Touring Production travels to schools in neighboring counties, sets up in the school gym or auditorium and performs for elementary school audiences.
Teen Production
Often produced in collaboration with Anaconda Jr.-Sr. High, this show features older youth in the cast. Whether a drama, comedy, or musical, the youth can participate onstage or back stage in this fully produced theatre production.
Summer Musical Theatre Workshop
This two week ‘day camp’ is usually held in mid or late July. Participants learn the music and movement for a short musical theatre performance. They are instructed in vocal production and musical theatre dance. A performance of the show is held on the last day of the workshop.
Community Production
These productions involve both youth and adults from the community.
