Welcome to The Open Theatre Project
The Young People’s Open Theatre Project is a theatre arts education program for youth which has been operating in Anaconda since 2013. OTP’s mission, to promote the ideas of tolerance, inclusion and understanding among young people through theatre arts, is supported by the various programs offered by the organization. The Open Theatre Project targets direct participation by youth in grades K-12. OTP also brings theatre education into the schools by performing for local and area school audiences.
The Open Theatre Project produced its first youth Outreach production in 2013. A production of Anne and The Tiger Raja toured with a cast of young performers to local schools to perform for elementary school children. That initial production exemplified the type of TYA (Theatre For Young Audiences) production which inspired the creation of The Open Theatre Project. Performed by youth for youth, the show incorporated multicultural elements which promoted the very ideas of tolerance and inclusion which lie at the heart of the organization’s mission. Since that initial outreach production, OTP has brought a variety of multicultural themed productions, including many folk tales from around the world, to thousands of local and area elementary school students in Anaconda and the surrounding counties.
